Our goal throughout the investment management process is to identify where you need to be financially when your earned income stream stops – what we call your “number” – and develop a working plan to help you get there.

We have designed a coherent and effective process to set up and then manage your valuable assets.

I. Initial Consultation

We start with a comprehensive review of your life objectives, your lifestyle costs both now and in the future, and your complete personal balance sheet, both assets and debts. After gathering this complete picture of your financial situation today and what is important to you in the future, we want you to take our thorough risk assessment. This information is essential for us to create your overall investment plan, which includes asset allocation, portfolio strategy, and the development of your required Personalized Return Objective.

II. Personalized Investment Strategy & Implementation

We assess your current investment portfolio, assets and strategy against your new strategic plan, which includes your goals and issues such as liquidity requirements, future one-time expenses, and objectives for future asset accumulation. This review, combined with our investment and tax expertise, guides the determination of your personalized investment strategy. Our transition strategy plays an integral part in bridging from your existing assets to our long-term recommendations. In mapping this out, we pay close attention to taxes and transition costs, since what matters to you is the after-tax accumulation of assets. Our investment experts tailor a plan specifically around your existing situation to maximize your potential returns while minimizing your tax liabilities.

III. Transparency and Reporting

We issue clear and concise quarterly reports that include an economic outlook, quarterly and extended period performance, and asset allocation summaries. Our goal is to be transparent and give you the information to understand how we are performing on your behalf. This augments the monthly statements you will receive from our outside custodian of your assets, Charles Schwab and Co.

IV. Tactical Tilts and Rebalancing

We continually monitor and analyze your asset allocation and assess results to judge appropriate performance under prevailing market conditions. We rebalance your portfolio to maintain specified levels of diversification, thereby continuously delivering effective results. We actively tilt portfolios to lower risk when necessary and to add incremental returns when clear valuation opportunities arise.

V. Personal Balance Sheet Planning – Annual Review

We conduct annual reviews to assess what was accomplished during the last 12 months to review and update our understanding of your overall financial situation, and to reconfirm or change our assumptions for your goals and objectives. We then use all this information to update our planning assumptions, assess the long-range implications, and recalibrate your investment approach when circumstances have changed sufficiently. Depending on your assets and situation, meetings may take place more often and we want to replan when you are considering important financial decisions.

VI. Financial Decision Planning

We know that life changes constantly and unanticipated opportunities and events can occur suddenly. That’s why financial planning doesn’t only take place annually. We offer strategic advice and financial decision planning whenever you confront big financial decisions. We are here to help you see how the impact of those decisions can affect your long-range goals in addition to the short-term implications.
